i've been away forever. i always think of things to blog about when i'm away from the computer....which is more often than not of late. um, significant stuff: gave up soy milk and started drinking almond milk. somehow that's significant. home garden is planted and we've already harvested snow peas, pole beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, and very soon our first cantaloupe. watermelon and peppers are growing, too. the pommello tree didn't produce this year but all of our other citrus trees have little baby fruits on them, as do the jujubes. we've been eating blackberries off our vines, grapes are growing....and there's been a smidge of talk about starting a mini-vineyard at the land. not that i know shit about wine or wine-making but we sure can grow some awesome grapes, so there's that. oh, we had spinach and lettuces, too. we tried pumpkins but the squash beetles have been eating them-WHICH-is okay, because so far it seems to have kept them off the more readily edible plants like the cukes and melons.
other stuff: still doing really well selling antiques and junk at Max's Haus....and having a blast at the First Friday events and getting to know everyone that sells there. still enjoying getting up before sunrise and driving off into middle-of-nowhere, texas for barn sales. my only regret is not taking more pictures (or any pictures at all) of the things i see during my drives.
renegade is FAST approaching and, as usual, i feel totally unprepared. i start questioning my abilities as an artist/seamstress and feel that surely i suck and everyone else there will have better/more items. still working on making mostly recycled jewelry/clothing...even skipped the last two gem + mineral shows that came to town in favor of pushing myself to use more of what i already have and to continue hunting for broken bits and pieces to re-invent. also have continued my quest of not purchasing new/retail clothing. i think i've only made a few 'new' purchases but they were items i considered long-term and necessary: 1 pair of jeans, underwears + bra, a couple cardigans, and socks/hosiery. underwear and hosiery are items one should never purchase second hand, i think. as usual, i tried to source items not made in china. everything else, including housewares, over the last 6 months has been purchased at thrift stores, garage/estate sales, or dumpster-dived.

i've been going to the river once a week with a friend and i think it's been great for my mental health. i hired a house-keeper to come once a week and clean for a few hours in hopes that i can use that extra time to work on my own projects. so far, it's been worth every penny. already planning for autumn/winter art and shows. getting organized, somewhat. hoping to stay on track.

Love those pic of the easter egg huntress from Japan! :)
It does seem like summer came suddenly, didn't it? Im jealous you're already harvesting! Have you guys gotten any rain yet?
GOod luck with the shows! Im hoping to settle down and spend the summer prepping for my next one at the end of september.

Love the Easter pics!
Sorry, I haven't visited your blog in such a long time, busy with the garden here. I don't take the time to read blogs much during the summer and stick to my gardening forums.
Which you can imagine, to my great surprise. That I recognized a photo of you on Dave's Garden! From his posts, your garden appears to be going great guns, despite the lack of rain! Congrats!
Your pic on Dg was easy to recognize, because I associate your lovely face with a wonderful blog put together by a talented woman! Don't doubt yourself, Chicka! You rock, keep doing what you love!
I'll check out Max's next time I'm in the hill country. If you ever make it to east Texas, let me know, We can go junking. Only, I call first dibs on all old chairs.lol
Have a great day,
and for heaven's sake,
get some rain!
