curations.

last week at an estate sale i purchased an old ammunition crate full of crusty old paintbrushes. i love stuff like this. when i go to an estate sale, garage sale, whatever...the first place i hit is the garage, shed, or barn. because i love crusty, rusty junk more than life itself. the ammo crate is cool. my mom has been asking to buy it from me. but what i'm really intrigued with are the brushes. most of them are wood-handled and each is spattered with varying shades and colors of paint. some are more used than others, some are natural bristled, some are synthetic. alone, each one is junk. together, they become a curation, telling the story of many years of one person's painting history.
i'm going to hang them somewhere in my house. what i haven't decided yet is how i will hang them. one long straight latitudinal line? or an arrangement fenced in by an old frame of sorts?

i told you yesterday of one of many great gifts i received....the little box of glass eyes. well, here they are for your perusal.

i'm most fascinated by the tiny, threadlike 'veins' running through the whites. such a delicate hand went into creating them, bien sur!

lastly [and leastly]...i was given notice that i was rejected (REJECTED!) from the 2011 etsy dallas spring bash craft show. so. you know which north texas craft show you needn't bother shopping at this april now. that's my public service announcement for today. la!

Woah, those eyes are creeptastic! I think when I imagined them, i was thinking of doll eyes. These look like true glass eyes that people would use! Woah.

And that's crap about Spring Bash. Several of my local crafter friends applied for that one. If you're looking for an April Show and were willing to drive up this way again (OKC estate sales!) I applied to this one in Norman, OK (it's about 20 minutes south of OKC)

I've heard good things about it!

PS:
Norman is the home of University of Oklahoma so it has a lot of young people and a good music scene, just in case you were like "where the heck is that town?!" lol

loving the brushes too!! In a line above a window would look great......geez....they'd look great a bunch of ways!!!

Take pics once they find their home!

ps...thanks so so much for the dying info. I hope to do it tonight...in the sink...being that we rent and do not have a washer. The old crab at the launderette would have my head if I attempted it there..LOL!!!

I just got a copy of the Jan/Feb issue of Marie Claire Idees mag (en francais bien sur!) and they made a 3 tier chandelier out of used brushes.they painted all the handles red. They also painted different coloured stripes on a wall and nailed the the brush at the top of the stripe. They only painted them about 3/4 of the way up the wall. Looks really great. hope this helps! grab a copy if you can!

I can't tell you how many times I've been rejected by etsy dallas... all I have to say is that it's their loss!
