thirty two years strong.

it's muh birthday! it's been a pretty good one; i've received lots of lovely and decadent gifts....but my favorite has been a tiny box containing two antique hand-blown glass eyes. yes, as in eyeballs. i'm a sucker for the macabre. pictures of that to come.

my life has really been revolving around my little antique booth at Max's Haus in new braunfels lately. i'm very into it. i love it. alot. i love making little 'vignettes' even more than i expected i would.
yesterday we had a little 'work' day where we all showed up and worked on cleaning up the front yard and porch. to be honest, i was dreading it just a bit. i don't care much for being outside for extended periods of time; that coupled with weed-pulling and general dusty stuff usually results in a migraine. but i was quickly put to work re-arranging the porch, which, of course, was loads of fun! we made a little sitting room vignette with lots of 'pops' of color. i think my favorite things are the two chairs hanging on the wall. i love putting things in unexpected places.
another chair in an unexpected place. but hey, how else are you gonna build height?
a good time was had by all and no migraines made their way into the perfect afternoon. the yard looks fabulous and is all ready for First Friday.....from 5:30 to 7 on friday evening max's haus will be hosting a little soiree....refreshments will be on hand while you browse items specially marked down just for the occasion. yay!

i've been working alot lately with vintage czech glass and swarovski rhinestone jewels. most of them are unopened packages from around 1960. not only are they jewels themselves resplendent and sparkly (and eco-friendly seeing as how they're vintage/recycled) but the packaging graphics rock, as well.
btw, they're pictured here sitting on top of a book i picked up out of a trash pile at an estate sale...it's copyright/print date is 1879. crazy!

on saturday i got up at 6am to start garage-saleing/antiquing. i ended up in martindale, which is basically a ghost town with a few awesome abandoned buildings and a few super-shitty yard sales. really, if you're going to try to pawn off your old kitchen wares on me, at least give 'em a wipe-down with a damp towel. seriously, if i wanted to look at old cups and utensils with grease and fuzz on them.....i'd save the 7 bucks in gas and just hang out in my own kitchen.

i like the number on the silo door here. as if it's an apartment. hey, i'd live there. i guess the downside is that i wouldn't have any windows. but still...it's pretty cool.noodle? farm implements and equipment. whatta name.

one of my cats killed and presented me with a dead lizard a few days ago. being the creep that i am, i saved it as well as documented [via photographs] it's scales and coloring.

these colors are insane!

speaking of wild things, i leave you with my jeunesse earrings:

Happy birthday dear! Hope you had a great one :) the store looks amazing. I need to go shop that! I love merchandising. Its one of the best parts, I think, to see your creations or finds come together in a vignette. But then again I am a compulsive decorator ;)
Happy birthday!~!

Happy Birthday, daughter! I called yesterday and left you a voicemail - hope you received the package we sent last week. Your place in NB sounds great - we'll want to come see that sometime.

Love,
Dad
