my dear, dear friend, noelle, made the journey with me. she is an excellent road trip partner! she refused to fall asleep on the ride even though we left at 6 in the morning and she also knows how to get my gas station coffees mixed up just right. she's also a doll for putting up with my angsty pre-show madness.
the drive went faster than i expected and was also lovely. we both ooohed when we crossed the Red River....because it really is so red! once we were in oklahoma it was a bit like being up in new england....the leaves were already turning and the weather was crisp and truly autumn-esque. we set up our booth at the farmer's market building (which is totally old and awesome, by the way) and then proceeded to our overnight accommodations, the OKC Private Art & Culture Exchange Lodging. we stayed in the bunk room and were quite comfortable and made to feel right at home by the inn-keepers, pete and cyn.
friday night was a whirlwind of frippery peddling! the girlie show was like one big party and people were there to SHOP! at one point, it was so crowded you could hardly move through the aisles!
i had so much fun and met so many lovely people....including the charming Heather of Audrey Eclectic. she's cute as a button and i wish i could teleport to oklahoma so we could have tea parties and craft our wares together all the time!
we left OKC sunday morning and i was a bit sad to go, really. we had such a blast and it really was one of my favorite-est shows that i've ever done, i think....so i really hope i can do it again next year.usually, after a big show like that, and also after driving about 850 miles in 3 days you'd think i'd be burnt out. but i was surprisingly inspired to get back to work making more goodies.
i have been working more and more with vintage bits and bobs, incorporating them into slightly more upscale pieces with gemstones and [semi] precious metals. don't get me wrong, i love doing the junque jewelry....but i have a soft spot in my heart for gems and heirloom-style treasures. i recently received a lot of antique religious medals from france. they are the most beautiful, tiny, amazingk treasures i've ever beheld, i think! so wee and precious, their delicate faces rubbed and worn down, almost flat like old thin dimes. more pictures of those to come!
i have discovered a new thrifting paradise....the saints peter + paul thrift shop at the church where jj goes to mother's day out. i found these old wooden hangers (just like what i use in my displays) for ten cents apiece!
