finally! it's autumn! late summer storms were rolling through the other day and blew three baby squirrels out of their nest. lee heard them hit the roof over his office and went outside to see two of them hanging from the gutters and one on top of the a/c unit. so pitiful! we quickly gathered them up and dried them off...
we've been feeding them puppy formula from an eyedropper and they're growing by leaps and bounds! this is our second time to rehab orphaned squirrels...they are the cutest things ever! about seven years ago we found 3 babies drowning in a tree nest that was quickly filling up with rainwater during a storm. they were crying so loudly we could hear them from inside the house! it's pretty amazing how quickly they can bond with their human counterparts. we worked with them for a long time to make sure they were ready to be re-released into the wild, and once we did, they would visit us on occasion. hopping out of a tree onto our shoulder, taking pecans from our hands. i hope these little guys do just as well.on a more business related note, i've felt a bit burnt out since Cowtown. i missed the last 2 san marcos farmer's markets, but this week i should be back. this really is a terrible time to not feel like working! i have more shows this holiday season than i've ever had before so i really need to buckle down and WERK. on october 19th, i'll be showing off one of my textile creations....my version of Delilah....for the Dangerous Women show at the ND in austin. 12 designers, 12 models, 12 dangerous women through time! november 5th and 6th is the Girlie Show in OKC, the next two following weekends in november are E.A.S.T. and i have a booth with my mom at the Vortex Theatre, and then December 4th and 5th is Wheatsville Arts Festival (which i still don't know my status of entry as of yet). and in between all of that i have the SM farmer's market and online sales to compete with. so yeah, i better get to work.

Ohhh the squirrel babies are adorable! I hope they´re gonna be alright, but they found the best foster parents they could wish for! Keep us updated about how they´re doing and good luck!!
Concerning your trip to Europe - you should be fine with English most places, apart from rural areas in France and Italy maybe, but that´s part of the adventure I guess, so just go ahead :-)
Bye Kirsten
Funny you should mention that about trains...we're going to visit your aunt/uncle and cousins next weekend and are taking the Amtrak train to Ft. Worth, where they'll pick us up. Better than fighting the "OU Weekend" traffic. As for hitching a ride on a freight, it's definitely dangerous and somewhat illegal these days. Your great-grandfather was a railroad man for nearly 30 years and got me into toy and model trains at a very early age. Too bad American railroads are in such decline, whereas the Euro rail system is far better. I'd love to ride the TGV train in France or even the modern-day Orient Express. The Japanese "Bullet Trains" would be quite an experience too.
I bet JJ loves those litte squirrels!
ooooh! Tiny baby squirrels! They look so sweet curled up together like that. How are they doing? They were so lucky to be rescued!
Good luck with all your show stuff! I'm feeling a little blah about creating too...why does that always happen in the last few weeks before show season?
Well, back to sewing doll bodies.... ;)
