indie bazaars and the being of bizarre in general.

i know, i know, i've been away for, like, forever. but i was busy! the cowtown indie bazaar was great. better than expected. this was my first time to schlepp my wares to another city for peddling and the whole experience was much smoother than i imagined. of course, i always imagine [and thusly prepare for] the worst. the drive to fort worth wasn't so long that it made me crazy and i had thought ahead and packed my leetle ear budlingks so i could listen to my musiks while the husband listened to whatever crazy new shit MGMT is cranking out. thankfully, though, he did include the new arcade fire album in his musikal lineup and so i was persuaded to remove my earbuds and i must say Ready to Start is really rocking my socks now. anyway...so the show....it was very busy! so busy, in fact, that i didn't have time to step back and take a picture of my booth. so instead, i present you with my newest + favorite-est necklace:

miss havisham's scissors

yeah, there's no way i can sell this necklace. at least for now. i'm so in love with it, it's out of hand. i have always been a fan of any sort of take on the whole punk rock mess o' chains thing. usually there would be an old heavy, rusty padlock in the mix but the antique scissors are a fresher, more ladylike approach, i guess. i'm going soft in my old age, y'all!

so, moving from punk rock to goth, let's take a look at these leetle bats:

the whole bat-loving goth thing is ironic and let's face it, cheese, at this point. but look at the bats from a naturalist's point of view and it becomes a slightly macabre and victorian-esque statement. it's sad that modern culture has turned vampires in to prissy little sparkling ninnies...so i've gone full circle with the whole idea and camped it up by naming these earrings after the Say Hi To Your Mom song, Sweet HeartKiller. here's the lyrics, just for fun:
In her youth she made tons of pence
ghost-penning songs for big hair aristocrats.
Now she lies in a plush, velvet bed,
shaped like a coffin and filled with bats.
And she is pale
and I am smitten
and in the moonlight we both still like the smell of anything night blooming,
and she bites through the necks like Ginsu:
my sweet sweet heartkiller,
my sweet sweet heartkiller,
my sweet sweet heartkiller,
my sweet sweet heartkiller.
Next to walls that jut from the earth like frozen trajectories of superheroes,
we nibble and jest about things that drain and the taste of lust.
And she is over here
and I am over there
and the unlucky dark cloud is in the middle.
We like to time ourselves,
we like to watch ourselves,
and her winks cut through me like a Ginsu:
my sweet sweet heartkiller,
my sweet sweet heartkiller,
my sweet sweet heartkiller,
my sweet sweet heartkiller.
And everything's good
and everything's fine
and everything's bitter like sweet things should be,
when I'm sinking my teeth into her:
my sweet heartkiller,
my so sweet heartkiller,
my so sweet heartkiller,
my so sweet heartkiller,
my sweet sweet heartkiller.
...............
the song is from the album Impeccable Blahs. blah being an ironic take on old skool vampires saying, "blaaaah, blaaaah, " i guess, when they show their fangs. or whatever. anyway, the whole album is about vampires. and alot of the lyrics pertain to how the lifestyle is sort of complicated and depressing. but in a very upbeat way. so check it out, you will love it.
speaking of vampires and things that come out in the dark, our beloved dragon fruit cactus bloomed the other night:
in other news, i was accepted to The Girlie Show in oklahoma city. !!!! sounds like it's going to be an amazingk craft show/art party. i've never thought of oklahoma as an artsy kinda place (sorry, heather) but apparently OKC is. see? you learn something new every day. also, my gadjo disko wedding dress that i made last year is currently on display at The Gallery of the Common Experience at Texas State University. more exclamation points. i still haven't made my way out there to see it...but i need to. mostly because the dress is displayed on dolly, my vintage dress form mannequin, and i miss her like crazy. and by 'miss her' i mean i don't have anything to model my clothes on for pikture taking. waaaah. and she'll be there 'til the end of the semester! and i'm totally kicking myself for not buying another vintage dress form that i saw for sale at a secret flea market for $40 a month ago. duurrrrr!
so for now, i'm going to just have to put my nose to the grindstone and start cranking out the frippery. c'est la vie.

Lol, I'm not offended. I was surprised as hell myself when I started looking into shows a few years ago and saw that Oklahoma was getting pretty hip and with it! We also have Deluxe and Indie Emporium :)
And you'll love the old farmer's market building that the Girlie Show is held in. Its my favorite show venue there.

Your bat earrings totally read as Victorian and not Goth at all to me. I think it's their symmetry, they look like those old engraved illustrations.
